Tooth Replacement
Dental Services

This is the replacement of lost teeth. A variety of replacement options are available including removable dentures, fixed dentures (Bridges) and implants.

Implants

With an implant, the dental specialist places a post (most commonly titanium) into the jawbone at the site of the missing tooth. After they determine that the post ‘was accepted’ by the body, then a crown is placed on the post. Because implants fuse to your jawbone, they provide stable support for artificial teeth. Dentures and bridges mounted to implants won't slip or shift in your mouth — an especially important benefit when eating and speaking. This secure fit helps the dentures and bridges — as well as individual crowns placed over implants — feel more natural than conventional bridges or dentures.

Fixed Dentures (Bridges)

A bridge is a way to close the gap by anchoring crowns on the teeth adjacent to the gaps. False teeth are attached to the crowns, which rest on the gum-line forming a fixture over the gap. Used in Smile-Design, a bridge is a fixed option, aesthetically pleasing. This affordable tooth replacement option applies if you are missing two or more teeth next to each other. With this option, it is possible to place one or two implants to help serve as an anchor for a bridge or partial denture.

Complete dentures can be either "conventional" or "immediate." Made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal, a conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about eight to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed.

Removable Dentures

A removable partial denture or bridge usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base, which is sometimes connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. A fixed bridge replaces one or more teeth by placing crowns on the teeth on either side of the space and attaching artificial teeth to them. This "bridge" is then cemented into place. Not only does a partial denture fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from changing position. A precision partial denture is removable and has internal attachments rather than clasps that attach to the adjacent crowns.
